There are quite a few things missing in Spanish Wells
- no casino’s
- no dance clubs
- no cruise ships
- no SNOW or ICE (except in your cocktail)
- no line ups
- no zombies (not a single one!..the only things that bite are a few mosquitoes and no-see-ums but they are easy to deal with by using a bit of bug spray and/or a fan; even a ‘bug magnet’ like me doesn’t have any real issues)
- no crowds (about 15-20 people on the entire 3 miles of beach…when it is busy)
- no shopping malls
- no overpriced gift shops
- no dry cleaners (oh no!! where will I get my shirts/suit/dress pants cleaned and pressed….oh, right don’t need any)
- no traffic
- no crime
- no nasty things in the water
- no pushy beach vendors (actually no beach vendors at all)
- no Walmart (or Target or Sears or Marshalls or TJ Max)
- no MacDonalds (or Burger King or Wendy’s or KFC or Tim Hortons)
- no condo/timeshare scams
- no spring break college crowds
But there are a lot of things there as well:
- great restaurants (Shipyard, Sandbar, Wreckers, The Gap, Budda’s Snack Shack, Anchor Bar, and others )
- a number of faster food, ice cream, bakery, etc. shops
- did I mention ice cream? Papa Scoop’s
- really good grocery store
- medical clinic
- a couple of dentists
- bank and a couple of ATM’s that accept most common North American and European bank cards)
- golf cart rental
- boat rental
- fishing, snorkeling, exploring tours
- swimming pigs
- liquor stores (Budda’s and Value Liquor)
- lots of friendly (but not annoyingly so) people
- easy access to Harbour Island (if you want to hob nob with some movie stars and have a $250 lunch)
- mobile phone stores (BTC, Alive)
- lots of free WiFi (at most restaurants and the Food Fair and most vacation rentals
- and of course, sun and a beautiful beach
